Julie profile
Hi, I'm Julie.

I am very lucky to have had the opportunity to work on multiple research projects as an undergraduate. Highlights include:

  • Spending the summer of 2018 at the SMALL REU program hosted by Williams College. I worked in the tropical geometry group under the direction of Ralph Morrison, studying divisors on graphs from a combinatorial perspective. We proved results relating various forms of an invariant of a graph known as its gonality. I also presented (some of) these results at MathFest 2018 where I was recognized with an outstanding student presentation award.
  • Working on an independent research project as a high school student under the supervision of Julie Rana. We studied roots of certain polynomials over finite fields and proved results regarding the "linearity" of these roots in special cases. I presented these results at the MAA NCS Meeting in the fall of 2017.

Papers:

  • Aidun, Ivan, Frances Dean, Ralph Morrison, Teresa Yu, and Julie Yuan. "Graphs of gonality 3." arXiv:1810.08665 (Oct 2018). Preprint.
  • Aidun, Ivan, Frances Dean, Ralph Morrison, Teresa Yu, and Julie Yuan. "Treewidth and gonality of glued grid graphs." arXiv:1808.09475 (Aug 2018). Preprint.
